Well, this version has a couple simple changes that might make a BIG
difference... The DIGI callsign is now used for a "reliable" mode, which
means (in this case) that if there has been a chance of lost data (Reset)
the switch will tear-down the connection. This is targetted for BBS forwarding.
If you are using the Switch callsign you will now get "Call Progress" messages,
basically when you first issue the connect you will get a message:
"Call being Setup" and when the connection is complete end-to-end you will
get "Call Completed to 'Call' @ 'Address'"; Example:
Call Completed to W2VY-4 @ 3100201478
The problem of seeing "NO PEER" in the USERS display should be gone, I've
had a few running for almost a week with none showing up...
During call setup you will no longer see any RESET messages is the originator
can't copy the switch well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
11/22/89
Now have INFO.LOD application that provides text messages for the disconnect
codes...
BOOTER.LOD - BOOTER will boot the system while you are uploading to LOADER
MAKEPROM.EXE - This program allows for creation of a Switch for any ONE OF
(*** ONLY ONE***) TNC-2, DR-200, TNC-320 OR PK-88
******* THE EPROM DOES NOT WORK IN MORE THAN ONE MACHINE TYPE ******
(ie. The same eprom originally worked in either a tnc-2 or dr-200)
( This is NO LONGER THE CASE, see the docs in RSWD1122.ZIP for)
( complete information)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
November 25, 1989
Added a couple of quick things, you can now load the Connect Text directly
into the LOADER application. The LAST command in the .TBL file is the text,
:0100.... You can just send the .TBL file to the Loader, you will get 10
"Error 000F" and one OK, it's no problem and works fine.
Also added a HEARD List Application (HEARD.LOD), check it out.
---------------------------------------------
30 November 1989 (Ok, it's really 7 December...)
Enhanced MAKEPROM.EXE to allow modification of *ALL* eprom defaults.
Enhanced HEARD Application.
9 December 1989 (Really!)
Found a long standing (read - Forever) bug where if a call is cleared and
there is data waiting to be forwarded the buffers would be lost in some
cases, I think some other changes agrevated this one...
With luck the slowly increasing Memory Used has been fixed... we'll see
Modified MEMSIZ to print bytes in Decimal!
Also made "Call being Setup" and "Call Completed to" messages configurable
via MAKEPROM.EXE
12 December 1989
Clean up...
There was a case when connecting to an application on the local switch
where you would get the Call Complete and Banner after the users/heard
display. Fixed.
The handling of FRACK with a digipeater has been improved.
Frack now goes from short to long back to short based on the RETRY counter.
If RET=5 then each retry will use a frack as follows:
1*Frack 2*Frack 3*Frack 2*Frack 1*Frack
Fixed a bug from 891125 where the bbRAM checksum was not updated when the
Connect Text was loaded through the LOADER interface.
Also did some space conservation.
19 December 1989
Bug when loading .TBL file into LOADER, would report an error on the
text (last OK), was not really an error, it worked... Report fixed.
Fixed a case when user A calls user B, while user B is calling user A, it
would not crash (i don't think) but did not act gracefull...
If a user connected to the switch (to get connect text) and then disconnected
without sending anything or waiting for the message, the switch would very
likely crash.
4 January 1990
Was a bug where is reliable mode is being used and a Reset occurs within the
network the *** Disconnect message could come out blank. Fixed.
Also moved the callsigns and switch address to the begining of the .TBL file,
to avoid a switch having callsign but wrong address for long.
One more year until we start the 200th decade (AD)!
14 January 1990
Problem of getting "*** Disconnect *** 0014" when accessing a remote switch
that was not configured. Would happen when configuring a switch for the
first time that was going through the network.
Modified MAKEPROM.EXE to compute and display the EPROM Checksum.
16 January 1990
Found a problem with the switch dropping receive buffers off of the RX Que.
I enabled interrupts a bit sooner than I should have...
23 January 1990
Found a problem with clean up on clearing or re-routing a call, this may
have been causing some of the lost buffers. Sorry but Time will tell...
It would cause the disconnect message to come out as "*** Disconnec *** nnn"
at times.
Also if you sent data to the switch while it was trying to bring up an X.25
trunk you would get Disconnect 0900, and the switch could then crash a bit
later.
Modified Call being Setup and Call Complete messages to allow messages
up to 40 bytes long.
31 January 1990
Fixed a problem where memory would be dropped when uploading .LOD or .TBL
files. This would happen if the load was interrupted or if characters were
lost on the async connection between the PC and TNC or if the connection
got disconnected in the middle.
3 February 1990
Fixed a recently introduced bug where the switch would do odd things
(including crash) if a call got routed to more than one switch and they
all returned 0900. This problem would also produce future 0D77 errors.
1 June 1990
I moved to Tampa, FL. New info:

28 June 1990
Was not setting a couple of Reserved bits in the numeric digi field, this
was causing one vendor's code to crash. Had a bug where the T3 (Check) timer
was not being started if the user was running AX25L2V2 OFF (ie Ver 1).
Note that L2T2 and L3T2 should be set to 4 if users are using 256 byte frames.
If they are using 128 byte frames then the defaults should be OK.
The switch will now allow calls on LCN's that are out of range. What this
means is now when connecting to an unconfigured switch the MaxVC 5 is no
longer needed. It will not allow more than 5 connections until it is
configured and the link is brought down. (Most easily donw with the power
switch or by using BOOTER.LOD)
******* Major Bug Fixed ********
There was a bug from since before 060289 where when Switch A was connecting
to Switch B and Switch B did not know about Switch A when the Level 3 was
Restarted it might crash based on what was in high RAM. This would also vary
from machine model (ie TNC2 vs PK88 or DR-200, etc) which explains some other
oddities that have been seen.
Independence Day 1990
Fixed a bug that would add garbage entries in the users display if a user
tried to connect through two (or more) digi's using the switch as the first.
(Did not specify a network address) I don't think this would really cause
any problems but it might have, since the USER Linked to had a pointer that
was pointing off into memory somewhere - but i don't think it would ever
modify anything out there...
13 July 1990
Have invalid connect requests (execpt to self) be ignored instead of returning
a DM (ie *** BUSY). Allow for L in X.121 Address to be translated to the
digit 1. (Should have been this all along, I did have a typing class once!)
Repaired the PK87/88 overlay. Renamed it to be PK88.OVR.
ALL REFERENCES TO PK87 SHOULD BE CHANGED TO PK88!
10/26/90
The 900713 version has been performing very well. This version only has
three changes.
1) Password protection to LOADER
2) The RS232 port now supports the diode matrix used for Net/Rom as
well as standard RS-232.
3) Clean up for CONFIG and LOADER and fixed a bug in USERS.
Config and Loader would not properly handle the case of someone attempting
to connect to them while someone else was using them. And Users would not
allow more than one connection at a time (fixed).
Added two new applications - MHEARD.LOD gives a shorter heard list when it
is loaded you still connect to HEARD. INFOSP.LOD has Spanish messages on the
disconnects.
IF USING AN RS-232 LAN YOU NEED TO CUT THE JUMPER BETWEEN 10 and 20!
**** SEE MANUAL.UPD for changes to the manual!!!!
11/11/90
The EPROM defaults to having No Password, can be changed via CONFIG.
Added some space after the COPYRIGHT NOTICE for local LAN info. 60 Bytes
(My copyright message is
"ROSE X.25 Packet Switch Version xxxxxx by Thomas A. Moulton, W2VY" )
To make the text get sent to users you will need to modify two pointers,
these are l2wdta and l2eob, see ROSEZSW.LST. Note that l2eob points to
the Last char of the string and l2wdta points to the next location.
(ie l2wdta = l2eob+1, Always!)
The password can be burned in eprom as well, location defpwd. The first
byte to the number of characters the reply needs to be, the second byte
is the length of the key (40 max) and the next 40 bytes are the key.
Both of these will be modifiable via CONFIGUR.EXE in the near future, and
I will send a message to ALL@ROSE when it is ready for download.
ps. ARE YOU GETTING BULLETINS THAT ARE ADDRESSES TO ALL@ROSE???
If not LET ME KNOW!!!
